SHARMA GLOBAL BIOTECH LABORATORY, RANCHI (SGBL) is established in 2023 as one of the premiere Laboratories of the state of Jharkhand with an objective to extend benefit mainly to students belonging to discipline of Biotechnology and Botany/ Zoology of Jharkhand or other states who are pursuing Under-Graduate/ Post-Graduate programs. It has proper registration under MSME Regd. No. UDYAM-JH-20-0016816 and certification of ISO 9001:2015. For the last one decade as per the UGC guidelines Project work or dissertation is one of the compulsory papers. The syllabus includes the said papers to enable students to understand the practical knowledge and acquire experience in their subject of interest. We know that the science subjects need to be substantiated by practical, otherwise science has no meaning. The foundation of education is teaching- learning and practical which provide students a platform to understand the principle of the themes, so that they can proceed towards skill development in the direction of research and innovations. The laboratory has been established by Prof. (Dr.) Hanuman Prasad Sharma, a retired University Professor from University Department of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi and Former Pro- Vice Chancellor, Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka. Even, Dr. Sharma is the founder member of the Department of Biotechnology under Department of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi. The Laboratory has sufficient space and has been built with nice infrastructures having separate rooms for different works: 1) Reception counter, 2) Washing room, 3) Sterilization room, 4) Instrument room, 4) General laboratory-cum-lecture room, 5) Inoculation room 6) Culture room 7) Distillation room 8) Wi-Fi Facility and 9) Library Facility. The technicians and teaching faculties appointed are experts and highly qualified and long experiences in their fields. Besides routine work, on every 15th day in a month some lectures will be organized under the banner of SGBL on some contemporary relevant subjects of Biotechnology. The lab has all the required facilities for project works in different disciplines; Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, Cytogenetics, Environmental Science, Ethnomedicinal Plants, Genetic engineering, Plant tissue culture, and Microbiology. The teaching staff will even help students for compilation of project work. The lab will also provide space to interested researchers and students who are seeking for Ph.D. Degree. There will be online/offline webinars on some relevant topic from time to time to provide them a platform to gather and meet together to interact with participants from different places and scientists from different Universities and Institutes. These academic events will definitely enable students and researchers to develop their knowledge and skill of communication. Since for a long time, Colleges and University Departments having poor lab facilities in terms of space, instruments, equipments, water and electric supply. Even, in order to cater quality education and training there are shortage of qualified and experienced manpower for more than a decade. Therefore, students are compelled to join either in the Institutions or private Labs which is not affordable due to high fee structure. In view of aforementioned drawbacks the present lab SGBL will be truly a boon for students in general and especially for those who are socio-economically and educational backwards in Jharkhand or other states. Here, fee structure is reasonable and one / two seats will be reserved for financially poor meritorious students, who will be given free admission for full course.
